5 Classical Piano Pieces for Beginner by a Beginner

Are you a piano beginner who wants to practice classical piano pieces?

I also started to look for classical piano pieces that I can try out after practicing some Hanon, Czerny and Burgmuller pieces.

But some pieces introduced as “Easy” or “For beginners” were actually too hard for me.

So, I created a list of 5 classical piano pieces that I as a piano beginner was able to practice and play.

My Piano Level

I used to go to a piano school when I was in high school for 2 years, but I quit piano and started to play piano again in 2020 after 20 years.

When I started to relearn piano in 2020, I practiced Czerny, Burgmuller and Heller’s etudes first.

Now I would say I am a piano beginner who can play Burgmuller’s Op.100.

If you can play Burgmuller’s Op.100, you can definitely try to learn the 5 pieces I introduce here.

【For Piano Beginners】5 Easier Classical Piano Pieces

Bach Prelude No.1

Bach,J.S.-Prelude and Fugue No.1,in C Major, from Das wohltemperierte Klavier I BWV 846,for keyboard (German Edition)

Ok, everyone knows this piece.

One of the reasons why I recommend this piece is because this is written in C major and there are not many sharps or flats.

It also has the same rhythm through the piece, all 16th notes. So even if you can’t read the sheet music, it is easy to play.

Pedaling is also easier, just lift the pedal every bar. Very good practice piece for using the pedal I think.

Bach Four Pieces From The Little Notebook : Minuet

Piano Adventures Performance Book, Level 3B

The second piece is Bach’s Minuet.

it is written in G major, so it has one sharp but there aren’t many notes.

Also there are no 16th notes in this piece, so it is easier to read and play.

Fingering can be a little bit tricky but you can follow the fingering on your sheet music.

One hard part is, this piece has Mordents , the symbol like 【〜】. But you don’t need to play Mordents, just ignore them at first.

E. Satie Gymnopedie No.1

CLASSICAL SHEET MUSIC – Gymnopédie No. 1 – E. SATIE – Solo Piano (English Edition)

The third piece I introduce is Gymnopedie No.1 by French composer E. Satie.

This piece is very slow tempo and simple.

The left hand jumps a lot, so left hand movement can be challenging at first.

But this piece is very soothing and relaxing to play.

I practiced this piece for a month

Beethoven Moonlight Sonata

Moonlight Sonata: Piano musical score (English Edition)

The fourth piece is Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement.

There are so many sharps, double sharps in this piece and a little bit difficult to read compare to others.

Right hand plays both the melody and the accompaniment, so that’s challenging as well.

Left hand play a lot of octaves, so if you have a smaller hand, that could be challenging too.

But this piece is a slow tempo piece, so it is not impossible to play.

I practiced this piece for a month

Chopin Op.28-7

Chopin-Prelude Op.28 No.7 in A Major for Piano (English Edition)

The last piece I introduce is Chopin’s Op.28-7.

Yes, it is a Chopin’s piece, but don’t you be so intimidated.

This piece is very short piece and has only has 16 bars.

There are many notes, but the rhythm isn’t that complicated.

I was able to play, so you can too if you practice.

I practiced this piece for a month

Lastly

Those are the 5 pieces I was able to play as a piano beginner.

if you don’t have a piano teacher that recommends you what pieces to practice or play. So I hope this list helps you to choose what pieces to practice.

If I have to rank difficulties of the pieces, from easier to harder, it would be

Bach Prelude No.1

Bach Four Pieces From The Little Notebook : Minuet

E. Satie Gymnopedie No.1

Chopin Op.28-7

Beethoven Moonlight Sonata

Let me know what you think!
